Title:SEP事件建模-空间天气预报 Modeling Solar Energetic Particle Events – A Space Weather Perspective

Abstract:

Solar Energetic Particles events is a major concern of Space Weather. In these events, charged particles are accelerated to very high energies at flares and/or CME-driven shocks.  Being able to model and forecast these events are of great practical needs. Furthermore, these events offer unique opportunities to learn the acceleration and transport of charged particles in a plasma envrionment.  In this talk, I will discuss a SEP model, the iPATH model,  which I have been involved in the past two dec-ades. In particular, I will discuss several aspects one should pay attention in modelling SEP events.  These include the role of shock geometry and the seed population in accelerating particles; the configuration of interplanetary magnetic field and solar wind conditions in shaping particle transport; and the A/Q-scaling of ion spectra and time profles. Toward the end, I will discuss Ground Level Enhancement (GLE) events and how neutron monitor data in these events can be used to constrain the underlying particle acceleration and transport process.

About speaker:

李刚,澳门科技大学教授,博士生导师。主要研究领域为空间等离子体物理。在太阳高能粒子的加速和传播,太阳风湍流特性,全球电场对高能粒子的响应等研究方向做了若干探索。是美国宇航局 (NASA) 共同协调建模中心 (CCMC) 收录的iPATH模型的主要开发者与负责人。2003年至今,在国际主流期刊发表论文300余篇,引用7000多次。是国际纯粹与应用物理学联合会 (IUPAP) 青年科学家奖 、美国国家科学基金会 (NSF) CAREER GRANT 、以及由中国空间天气学国家重点实验室与中国科学院空间科学与应用研究中心联合颁发的“空间天气科学青年创新奖”的获得者。
